The approach I take to my work.

All of my work is rooted in using a strength-based approach.

Definition: A strengths-based approach is one that focuses on what is working well in a specific situation.

The reason I ground my work in a strength-based approach is that I’m a firm believer that individually and collectively we have some of the tools we need to enact positive change in our communities. Equally, I’m also a firm believer that when we want to enact positive change, it needs to come from a place of love for ourselves and our communities. While I don’t want to diminish the role of challenging experiences in helping us cultivate a strategy that is inclusive, ultimately for me it needs to start from a place of ‘what works well?’ before we explore ‘what can be improved?’.
